The year 2007 is about to end, so it's time to look back at the NBA's best of the year. Sure there are parts of two NBA seasons in the calander year, but that shouldn't stop us from doing up a Best of 2007, NBA style!
Here, About Basketball picks the best NBA team for the year and there are a few choices, depending on what you're looking at specifically. Is it the NBA champion San Antonio Spurs or perhaps another NBA team, such as the Dallas Mavericks?
It should probably be a no-brainer that the Best NBA Team of 2007 should be the San Antonio Spurs, right? Well, yeah, OF COURSE! However, somehow it just seems too boring and easy to choose them, much like this past season's 2007 NBA Finals when LeBron James and his Cleveland Cavaliers represented the Eastern Conference and were quickly swept by the Spurs. It just seemed too easy.
That said, is there a team around the NBA that is as consistent in winning as the Spurs are? I mean, consistent and actually winning multiple NBA championships since you can count the Dallas Mavericks and Detroit Pistons as consistently winning teams during the regular season the past several seasons, but not earning multiple Larry O'Brien trophies the way the Spurs have.
Still, it's hard to ignore the Mavs' 67-15 2006-07 campaign and record-breaking string of three 12-game winning streaks during the season. That's just plain good! However, the Mavs couldn't get it done in the postseason as they lost a 4-2 first round matchup with the also-ran Golden State Warriors, who sent Dirk Nowitzki and the rest of the Mavs to the proverbial golf course.
So, it's the San Antonio Spurs that earn the title of the Best NBA Team of 2007. It might not be a "sexy" pick, but it's as fundamental as, well, Tim Duncan.
