Unfortunately, the career of Rebecca Lobo was very front-loaded. After leading her University of Connecticut Huskies to a 35-0 season, ultimately leading to a National Championship and Naismith Player of the Year Honors, Lobo was named to the gold-medal winning 1996 Olympic Women’s team. Like Olympic teammate Lisa Leslie, Lobo was a member of the inaugural season of the WNBA, where she would be assigned to the New York Liberty as their starting center and most popular player.

However, in her second season in the WNBA, Lobo would experience an injury to her left ACL, and would struggle to ever really recover. She would retire in 2003 as a member of the Connecticut Sun. Though a full-circle career, it is one that would have likely lasted a lot longer without the devastating knee injury. Currently, Lobo is a member of the ESPN franchise as she is a reporter and color analyst for women’s college and professional basketball games.
